Installing the Techsafe Contra Spacesaver
The Back Seat
The first photograph shows the factory fitted flooring and the timber walling. The general location of the seat is taped and measured, ready for Unique Van Conversions fitting.
The factory fitted floor and the timber walling is a highly recommended option. It will save weeks of work trying to cut the flooring and the walls in and getting the anchoring to align with the vans existing fixing points (no more drilling holes in van walls).
I will pop the walls off and use the standard hole locations in the walls and Rivnuts to put the walls back on later. Importantly, fixing the walls back on with Stainless Steel Button Socket Heads will be clean looking (Loctited in Blue), allowing for the panels to be removed and finished (how and I want) and allow access to the wall areas later when required.
But first things first the passenger seat.
I wanted a seat that was comfortable enough for day use and that would not take up too much space and be able to carry two passengers if required. I settled on the Techsafe Space Saver Contra to suit the Sprinter with "Caluma Trim" matching my van.
A removable table will be behind the drivers seat (this installation will be detailed in a future post and includes my office area). Therefore, so I set the location for this seat not less than 550mm from the rear of the drivers seat box.
This will leave sufficient leg room without consuming to much cabin space. There is a strut beneath the floor so the seat will have to move a little more than 550mm toward the back of the Sprinter so the subfloor seat anchor rail clears the cross strut. This design (at least at this date) does not have a window on the drivers side next to this seat. This is a suck-it and see approach. I may put a small window in later!
The fabric is identically to new van "Caluma". The seat is being installed by Unique Van Conversions at 7-25 Hiles St, Alexandria NSW 2015. Unique Van Conversions are also installing new side window (passenger side only), fitting the tow bar and fitting the Ambulance Dark Tinting to the new window and the back doors.
